In other news, I told my boss that I could work through January 1st. So, of course, he scheduled me to work through January 3rd. *headdesk* He gave me good shifts for the 2nd and 3rd, so I'm not going to say anything. I really can use the extra money. I just hope that I can find time to get everything packed in time.
But, yes, I officially have seven more days scheduled at the Restaurant of Doom™. And then I'm finished there. Forever.

I don't know if it's just my four-year-old camera getting old, a lucky shot that somehow made it through the padded bag to hit a weak point, or some combination of the two, but the viewscreen is dying. Much of the very top right is a black smear with some rainbow streaks, while the left top corner is a gradually growing blank white shape that starts to "bleed" along the whole left side of the screen. Every time I use the camera, turning it on or especially shifting between flash and no flash, the damage worsens. The top part of the screen is also where the camera displays information about flash and number of shots left. It still takes photos, but it's much harder for me to know exactly what part of the scene it's taking a photo of. Also, I need to reset the date and time information at every battery change and need to see it to do that and things like flash compensation are chosen through a menu that appears in the viewscreen.
Not knowing how much longer the camera will be completely usable, I went for a night shot run at Bergdorf Goodman, and a higher percentage of photos sucked than usual from me not having a more complete view of what I was doing. (Also because it was really cold and my hands were freezing up even with gloves.) I'll be looking through them tomorrow to decide what to post. Some of them turned out really well... though the usable parts of viewscreen got smaller and smaller as I worked.
This had to wait to show up a day and a half before Christmas. If I'd known earlier I could have asked friends and family for money toward a new camera. One with a tolerance toward night shooting and a competent zoom would be great. I definitely didn't need the added expense, and I don't know when I'll be able to buy a new one.
For a while I was thinking 2009 hadn't been so bad, but it's getting in a few kicks in its last few weeks.

I have a huge weakness for LA Food trucks.
Because three years ago if you suggested to your friends that you should eat a food truck, they'd look at you like you were crazy.
Nowadays, food trucks park outside of places RICH WHITE YOUNG PEOPLE work, like Santa Monica Water Garden, and the Miracle Mile buildings across from the Tar Pits.
And these people (who are all following these trucks on twitter) all run over there and take photos of themselves with their cell phones next to the truck and make huge long lines and update their facebook posts with how much they love their food truck.
Yes folks. This is like how Marie Antoinette liked to dress up as a peasant. Or how the Rockefeller's made lobster a delicacy.
The original truck that started all this is the Kogi BBQ truck. Tacos served Korean style. It has spawned a huge number of rip-off trucks all serving Korean tacos as well.
Most of the trucks tend to offer an Asian fusion taco of some sort, even if it's not Korean. Nomnom truck has a Vietnamese taco, and the flying pig has an Asian taco with french flavors to it.
What I like to see is which trucks are successful and which are not.
From what I can tell, it needs to be an idea that hasn't been done yet, and serves a food not easy to come by.
There are trucks that serve sushi, burgers and gastropub food, but there are sushi joints and gastro pubs and burger stands all over the place
On the other hand, Nomnom truck serves Bahn Mi which is nearly impossible to get unless you're in the San Gabriel valley, and the Grilled Cheese Truck serves all sorts of crazy grilled cheese sandwiches. These I can't just walk down the street to get to.
I want to hear thoughts on my LA friends favorite food trucks. I personally swear by Nomnom, but I ended up at Flying Pig today, and loved the french flavors to go with the more asian meats. Deconstructed pork belly bun? Duck taco flavored with oranges and beats? Horray.
I've always wanted to start my own truck before the Food Truck boom bursts and the feral children of the future are using the hollowed out rusting remains of the Buttermilk Truck as a fort. It's probably a MUCH cheeper investment then opening a resturant.
It would be nothing but fusion tacos from around the globe. Mediterranean Taco! Russian Taco! Ethiopian Taco! Japan Taco! and so on.

вот оно - удовлетворение настоящее=)
ага, а тот кто обещал разгромную рецензию в Мире Фантастике похоже обещание не выполнил=)
а я так ждала=) так ждала=)
интересно же какими словами меня громили бы в нормальной рецензии, а не на просторах инета, где можно употреблять всякие некрасивые слова и не стесняться в выражениях. но видно не судьба..эх.

Okay, okay, okay, that's all the years of college plus senior year. That's a lot. It's just that these past two years have been a complete drain of life. If the next 6 years are like this to begin with, I'd be screwed anyway.

I've been absent for a little while. My BFF, ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) grayshifter came out from Denver to visit. We had great fun, including visiting twilight_angel up in the remote town of Chestertown, Maryland.
Last Monday was the 7 year anniversary of my good friend Robert, and those of you that have been around were there for that. Apparently there's a lot of things going on in my subconscious that it refuses to share with my conscious self. On that night I drank three bottles of red wine almost exclusively by myself. Laura helped deal with the after math. I don't remember nearly everything that went on, but I do know this:
My subconscious LOVES Lady Gaga.
It was also upset by the anniversary.
It likes to talk military tactics and whatever.
Today I got my hair done and realized something: the moment a person mentions they're military, we suddenly have a million things to share. I had more to share with a random guy that came into the hair salon that was prior Navy than I did with the woman who had been doing my hair for three years. It's just so hard to describe things if there's no frame of reference.
But my hair dresser had a rough year, and after a shakey love life, finally found someone that has made her happy. So I'm really happy about that. Especially since I see so many other relationships falling apart.

Another busy day. I think my body is starting to add up the total and present me with bills: I'm feeling rather tired. Oh well, I can rest on the train tomorrow and when I get home to family.
Work went well. My coworkers liked the earrings I'd made for them, which was very gratifying. Got to the maternity hospital after work and handed over the premature baby jacket and hat I'd made, which is another thing I'd wanted to get done before Christmas. Managed to get to the local gaming shop afterwards to pick up a book I wanted, then to M&S to get some mince pies to bring in to work tomorrow. (Stopped by Pret a Manger to grab a sandwich for tomorrow. Got called "sir" by the man serving me. More than once. I didn't think my winter coat was that concealing.)
Got home. Washed hair. Wrapped Christmas presents. Did majority of packing. Had supper.
Currently waiting for laundry to finish before putting it to dry and then hitting my bed very hard indeed.
Off home tomorrow after the morning's work, which means five hours on the train, which means that I'm currently crossing my fingers very hard indeed that the trains will be running on schedule. The fact that it is snowing outside, and that the snow appears to be lying, is not helping my confidence. Oh well. I can but wrap up warm, put some knitting/books/DS in my bag, hang onto my luggage, and hope.
